ArmInfo. The decision of US Congress on allocation of $8 million to
Nagorno Karabakh caused a hysterical response in Baku.
Being not limited to different kinds of statements, the Azerbaijani
party, represented by this country's Ambassador Yashar Aliyev, passed
a protest note of Armenia's Foreign Ministry to US Department of State
on December 17. Aliyev thinks that "implementation of any programmes
in Nagorno Karabakh or in other occupied territories of Azerbaijan
without corresponding consultations with the Azerbaijani government
conflicts with the US official position on support of Azerbaijan's
sovereignty and territorial integrity in its internationally
recognized borders". In view of this, the Azerbaijani party urged the
USA government to provide an essential information. Moreover, it was
stated that implementation of these programmes without Azerbaijan's
permit "will be considered as US government's support to the separatist
regime created on the occupied territories of Azerbaijan, it will
contribute to continuation of occupation of these territories and
will negatively affect the efforts on conflict settlement, moreover,
it will break the image of USA as "an impartial mediator" of OSCE MG".
To note, US government annually provide assistance to Nagorno Karabakh,
and the reason of Baku's insult is somewhat unclear.
Probably, it counts on achieving something through permanent caprices
and threats. In any case, it is apparent that Baku is not interested
in economic development of Nagorno Karabakh.
