Today, President Serzh Sargsyan received the delegation of the National
Assembly of the Republic of Nagorno Karabakh, headed by the Speaker of
the Assembly Ashot Ghulian. In Yerevan, the delegation participated
at the 7th session of the Armenian-NKR interparliamentary commission
on cooperation.
Welcoming the parliamentarians from Karabakh and wishing them success
in their common work with the National Assembly of Armenia, President
Sargsyan said, "Undoubtedly, synchronized work of all state bodies
of Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh, particularly of their legislative
bodies, is crucially important not only on this stage but it will also
solve many future issues. With this regard, I express my satisfaction
with the active cooperation aimed at strengthening ties between the
two parliaments, which become closer quite noticeably. I also hope
that through the National Assembly of Armenia the members of the NK
parliament will get new opportunities to participate more inclusively
in the regional and international processes, once again making the
voice of the peoples of Karabakh audible and state their unbending
will to master their own destiny on their own land.
Everyone should know that during the imposed war the people of Nagorno
Karabakh were forced to defend their freedom with their own blood
and that the people of Karabakh believe that on one hand they have
been able to restore historical justice violated during the Stalin
era tyranny and on the other - to ensure the minimum of what is
necessary for their physical survival. We have said this many times
- the NK negotiations must produce a solution which will exclude
new deportations or new ethnic cleansing. Such solutions exist,
people just need to see them, be able to tell dreams from reality,
fair solutions from ambitions. I am confident that the time will show
that this approach has no alternative.
At the same time, we should be fully cognizant that the resolution
of the NK issues can be successful only if the Republic of Nagorno
Karabakh is a direct participant in the negotiations. I am confident,
that the time will show that this has no alternative either, and
I hope that the responsibility of the leaders regarding a peaceful
and prosperous future for the people of the Caucasus will be finally
realized and the problems existing between Karabakh and Azerbaijan
will find their final resolution. It can be no other way."
The President of Armenia once again wished the parliamentarians
success and productive work.
The Speaker of the NK parliament assessed the works of the
interparliamentary commission as efficient and noted they have
been very useful for receiving information and its practical
implementation. Ashot Ghulian said that the interparliamentary
commission discusses urgent issues that concern not only the members
of the parliaments but also the public at large. According to Mr.
Ghulian, the works of the commission become more active and the
discussions - more practical.
At the request of the parliamentarians, President Serzh Sargsyan
spoke about the recent developments in the NK peace process. The
President of Armenia stressed that after each round of negotiations
their content and detail information regarding the issues under
discussion are conveyed to the President of the NKR.
