Yerevan
YEREVAN, December 25, /ARKA/. Armenian prime minister Tigran Sarkisian
said today a special commission must be set up to track down high-level
government ignoring a constitutional ban on business running.
'It is not a secret that some high-ranking government officials have
their own businesses, but the problem is that we have failed to create
a clear-cut legislation to detect and handle this violation of the
law,' he said.
The prime minister said it is the time now to show political will
and pass a special legislation that will provide with clear-cut
instruments to supervise execution of the constitutional requirement.
He said the parliament will consider introducing special procedures
and bodies to deal with the problem next year.
The prime minister reminded that under the Armenian legislation
government officials have the right to own enterprises, have shares
in companies but they have no right to run a business.
'We must make the activity of high-level government officials
transparent and controlled,' he said.
