    TAXI DRIVERS STILL COMPLAIN

    A1+
    [01:32 pm] 10 February, 2009

Individual taxi drivers say that the National Assembly did not give
a complete and adequate response to their appeal/protest after their
letter sent to the NA Chairman presenting their demands.

According to them, they informed the NA that the best they could do
was to not apply restrictions for cars that are more than 15 years old,
but the government's conditions remain the same.

The RA government passed a resolution to put a ban on the use of
cars that are over 10 years old and proposed taxi drivers to work as
individual entrepreneurs or work for taxi services. Taxi drivers are
not satisfied with the requirements because on the one hand, their
cars are over 10 years old and on the other hand, they say that the
    tax is too high.

Taxi drivers also sent a letter to the RA President, but they don't
know if they will receive a response or not.

NA "Heritage" faction Deputy Larisa Alaverdyan informed taxi drivers
that the transportation inspectorate of the RA Transportation Ministry
will not be too strict with them yet.

Let us remind that transportation inspectors have started working
with road police to register violations.
