MEGAPHON COMPANY NOT INTENDING TO STOP COOPERATION WITH NAGORNO KARABAKH SEPARATISTS

One of the biggest mobile companies of Russia - Megaphon continues
and seems not to stop cooperation with Nagorno-Karabakh separatists.

This comes from the letter of Day.Az reader Rahim Mahmudov, addressed
    to our agency.

    "Dear, Day.Az agency!

After reading the article on the contract of the Russian company
Megaphone with Karabakh Telecom and provision of roaming service in
the occupied lands of Azerbaijan, I have sent a letter to them. I
would like to forward you their response to my letter. I think no
    comments are needed.

I forward you the unchanged text of the letter:

    "Dear Rahim!

The roaming service allows Megaphon users to use their mobile phones,
being in the operation area of other operators (both of GSM and other
standards). By concluding an agreement with this operator, the Megaphon
users may use the communication services in Nagorno Karabakh. Megaphon
does not violate the international norms and principles and does not
reject the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.

Thank you for the appeal and we hope for further fruitful cooperation!

    Respectfully,

    Customer service Megaphon-Siberia".

We are confident that this cynical answer, which makes it clear that
Megaphon intends to cooperate with separatists, must be a greater
stimulus for the Foreign Ministry of Azerbaijan, Azerbaijani Embassy
to Moscow, Ministry of Communication and Information Technology to
react duly on this fact. Unfortunately, this did not happen so far.

We are confident that this time official structures of Azerbaijan
should demand not only correction of mistakes on the website but also
elimination of the roaming contacts between Megaphon and Karabakh
Telecom. The previous experience proved that only a sharp ultimatum
can be effective. The example is a situation when the National Bank
demanded from the Western Union to stop activity in Nagorno Karabakh
and prohibited the operation of this monetary transfers system in
    Azerbaijan.

Mobile companies of Azerbaijan should also partake in this issue and
send letters of protest to this company and threaten to them that
all business contacts might be stopped with Megaphon in case their
continue cooperation with Nagorno Karabakh separatists.

    Day.Az will follow the events.
