"Europe becomes more Russia oriented not because the relations become
improved but because of fear they have once had towards the Soviet
System," said Eugeni Volk, the head of the Russian representative of
the Heritage Foundation and candidate of historical science in his
interview given to Azeri "Day. az".
According to him being energetically dependent on Russia, as well as
Russian military power make them to change their approach.
To the question whether it is possible to see Ukraine and Georgia
as NATO members, the political expert said that such development is
practically impossible. "Neither the USA nor the Old Europe want to
spoil their relations with Russia and the voice of New Europe is not
strong enough. Though within the time such development is inevitable,"
he said.
Azerbaijan is now skillfully maneuvering between Russia and the West,
observing a definite balance of interests. However, in the geopolitical
and strategic context in which Azerbaijan exists, its choice in West's
favor is inevitable, he said.
Regarding the Nagorno Karabakh conflict he said that its resolution
is not beneficial for Russia which does not want to lose its levers
in Armenia and Azerbaijan.
