The Foreign Minister of Georgia Grigol Vashadze is going to pay an
official working visit to Armenia on 20-21 February. In this regard
"Djavakhq" organisation, "Mitq" analytical center and "Yerkir" NGO
made an announcement.
The authors of the announcement say that Georgian Armenians are
extremely shocked and live in fear after July 2008 when political
activists Vahagn Chakhalian, Grigor Minasian, Sargis Hakobdjanian and
Grisha Avagyan were arrested, and numerous other activities violating
the right of Georgian Armenians were intimidated. They say that such
strategy is aimed at strengthening the emigration of local Armenians
or assimilating them under the name of "integration".
The statement authours call on Armenian authorities to pay attention
on the following recommendations: to stop the attacks and criminal
investigation of those political activists, to guarantee the usage of
Armenian in Djavakhq and Tsalka regions by legislation, to establish
Armenian-Georgian state university in Akhalqalaq in order to force
the local youth to study in their homeland, etc.
