'South Caucasus Railway' has no authorities to participate in
Iran-Armenia railway construction: SCRW Director
ArmInfo. The 'South Caucasus Railway' has not yet authorities for
participation in Iran-Armenia railway construction, SCRW Director
General Shevket Shaydullin told journalists today.
'Creation of the railway transit corridors is of great importance
for the Armenian economy in general. It is important for us as well
as it means an opportunity of increasing the freight traffic volume
and profit earning. As for participation of South Caucasus Rail Way
[SCRW] in this project, we have currently no relevant authorities in
the investment project. However, this issue was discussed at the level
of the Armenian and Russian governments and got a positive assessment.
First of all, here the main problem is the rate of return and the
staff of participants. I think this issue will be shortly clarified',
S. Shaydullin said.
To note, according to specialists, construction of Iran-Armenia
railway will take not less than 5 years. By preliminary calculations,
the project may cost $1,5-2 bln.
