ARKA

YEREVAN, February 25. /ARKA/. Armenia needs further improvement of
tax administration despite the crisis, Atristomene Varoudakis, Head
of the WB office in Yerevan, told reporters.
For several years the WB has been conducting a dialogue with the RA
Government for the improvement of tax administration, he said. He
stressed the importance of further work even amid the economic crisis.
Varoudakis said that the additional funds must not be collected at
the expense of small and medium-sized enterprises.
The WB urges the Armenian Government to make every effort to expand
the tax base to improve the struggle against tax evasion and shadow
economy, Varoudakis said.
In this context he pointed out a number of steps favorable for
business, including risk-based tax inspections, enterprises' tax
history, to reduce taxpayers' contacts with tax officers to a minimum.
Varoudakis pointed out the need for a heavier tax burden for large
taxpayers to relieve it for small and medium-sized businesses.
