AAC INDIFFERENCE PLAYS INTO HANDS OF GEORGIA WHICH IS TRYING TO APPROPRIATE ARMENIAN CHALCEDONIAN CHURCHES

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ Georgia launched a campaign of appropriation of
Armenian churches in early 1990. Now, Georgia media ascribes the
Armenian Chalcedonian churches to the Georgian Orthodox Church,
    an Armenian historian said.

Georgia demands 10 Armenian churches which were built in the 7th
century and situated mostly in Lori and Tavush regions of Armenia.

"We neglected the problem 16 years ago. Now we are facing Georgia's
policy of privatization of Armenian churches," Samvel Karapetyan told
    a news conference today.

"For example, the Georgian Patriarchate purchased accommodation
near Khutchap Church (several kilometers from the Georgian border)
for the Georgian monks who started to conduct services there," he
said. "The Chalcedonian Churches have lost their flock. However,
the architecture proves their Armenian origin."

"So, the indifference of the Armenian Apostolic Church plays into the
hands of Georgia, which is trying to appropriate Armenian Churches,"
    Karapetyan resumed.
