January 29, 2009 MEXICAN champion Jorge Arce has vowed to paint
the ring red with blood when he takes on Australian power puncher
Vic Darchinyan in next month's super flyweight world-title fight
    in California.

Arce, renowned for his verbal barbs before a fight, said he does not
mind if his own blood is spilt.

The 10,000-plus fans expected to pack the Honda Centre, in Anaheim,
south of Los Angeles, to watch Darchinyan defend his IBF, WBC and
WBA belts on February 7 expect to see a brawl, Arce said.

"I'll give them blood," Arce told a conference call.

"I don't mind getting some blood in there.

"If I get blood on me, I love that.

"It gets me motivated and gets me excited and more aggressive.

    "The crowd enjoys it."

Arce, a 29-year-old former three division world champion, and
Darchinyan have traded verbal jabs for years with Arce refusing to
    fight the Armenian-born Sydneysider.

Arce, with 51 professional wins, including 39 knockouts, only agreed
to step into the ring with Darchinyan after the Australian united the
division in November by flooring much-hyped Mexican, Cristian Mijares.

Arce irritated the Darchinyan camp last weekend when he failed to
show up at a press conference in LA.

Darchinyan flew across from his camp in Las Vegas only to discover
the crafty Arce remained in a high-altitude training camp in mountains
    outside of Mexico City.

Darchinyan said he planned to make Arce pay by beating him up every
round of their fight, but purposely not knocking him out to prolong
    the Mexican's agony.

"I want to play with him like a cat plays with a mouse," Darchinyan
    said.

"I'm going to show how dumb he is.

    "I'm going to punish him."

The 33-year-old Darchinyan has an intimidating 31 win, 25 knockout, one
loss, one draw, pro record, but Arce downplayed his opponent's power.

Arce said he would follow the fight plan of the only man to beat
Darchinyan, Filipino Nonito Donaire who scored a surprise knockout
    win in 2007.

"He's only a one-handed fighter," Arce said of Darchinyan.

"He has one thing - the left hand.

"It's fast and strong, but once you take that away from him like
    Donaire did, he's done."

Meanwhile, Manny Pacquiao and Ricky Hatton have formally agreed to
fight for Hatton's IBO junior welterweight belt on May 2, ending
several weeks of negotiating and posturing.

Vladimir Klitschko will lay his IBF, WBO and IBO heavyweight titles
on the line against British challenger David Haye for the WBC crown
on June 20 at Chelsea's Stamford Bridge ground, German daily Bild
    has reported.
