/PanARMENIAN.Net/ Grigor Minasyan, who was arrested in Georgia on
January 22, heads a youth center in Akhaltsikhe and is the initiator
of various national, cultural and religious events. Thanks to his
activities, Armenians of Samthkhe Javakheti became more consolidated
for maintenance of Armenian identity and traditions, an Armenian
expert said.
"Minasyan was one of those few people who resisted Georgian
authorities' pressing anti-Armenian policy in the region," Eduard
Abrahamyan, expert at Mitq analytical center, told PanARMENIAN.Net.
"Grigor Minasyan and his friends tried to protect Surb Nshan Armenian
Church from Georgian encroachment. His arrest and accusation of
espionage is shocking. It once again proves Georgia's duplicity and
aggressiveness toward Armenian activities in Samtskhe Javakheti,"
he said.
"It's also shocking that the Georgian authorities eye the people
who are trying to protect their language and national traditions as
enemies. Grigor Minasyan has two children and he wants them to grow
up as true Armenians. This is the reason of his arrest," Abrahamyan
concluded.
