    RA PRESIDENT AND TURKISH PRIME MINISTER POSITIVELY ESTIMATE RESULTS OF THEIR FIRST MEETING

    DAVOS, JANUARY 30, NOYAN TAPAN. RA President Serzh Sargsyan met with
    RF Prime Minister Vladimir Putin in the evening of January 29. The
    sides summed up the positive tendencies recorded in the economic
    cooperation sphere in 2008 expressing confidence that annual commodity
    circulation between the two countries, the index already exceeding
    1bn dollars creates good bases for further success. During the meeting
    the interlocutors touched upon a wide range of issues on the bilateral
    relations agenda.

    The same day S. Sargsyan met with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip
    Erdogan. The sides attached importance to the breakthrough in the
    process of normalizing the Armenian-Turkish relations that took place
    after the 2008 September 6 meeting between the Armenian and Turkish
    Presidents, the continuation of which were further meetings between
    the two countries' Foreign Ministers. S. Sargsyan and Tayyip Erdogan
    positively estimated the results of their first meeting and instructed
    the two countries' Foreign Ministers to exert additional efforts for
    normalizing the relations.

    As Noyan Tapan was informed by the RA President's Press Office,
    S. Sargsyan also had a meeting with President of Switzerland
    Hans-Rudolf Merz. The interlocutors stressed the current high level
    of both bilateral relations and relations within the framework of
    international organizations. S. Sargsyan thanked for assistance
    provided to Armenia by the government of Switzerland, as well as
    emphasized Switzerland's permanent balanced position during discussion
    of issues regarding Armenia at international organizations.

    During the meeting they also touched upon overcoming the consequences
    of the world financial-economic crisis and settlement of the current
    regional problems.
