RUSSIA FURIOUS OVER EUROPE'S INSANE COMPARISON OF NAZISM AND STALINISM

Russia's Parliament, the State Duma, is working on a response to
OSCE's resolution, which the organization approved on July 3rd. The
resolution condemned the Nazi regime in Germany and Stalin's regime
in the USSR. OSCE's Parliamentary Assembly claimed that the USSR and
Germany were both guilty in unleashing Second World War.

The authors of the resolution said that Russia should refuse from the
glorification of the Soviet past. In addition, they say that Russia
must eliminate the structures which idealize history. It apparently
goes about Dmitry Medvedev's decision to establish a committee to
struggle against the falsification of history to the detriment of
    Russia 's interests.

Russia harshly criticized the OSCE's document. "The Congress of
People's Deputies gave its estimation to the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact
in 1992, so any new measures are redundant," an official spokesman
for Russia's Foreign Ministry, Igor Frolov said. The official added
that Russia condemned the signing of the pact long ago, so there was
absolutely no need to go on with any speculations on the matter.

Alexander Kozlovsky, the head of Russia's delegation at the OSCE
Parliamentary Assembly described the resolution as an attempt to
equate the Soviet Union with Nazi Germany in spite of the fact that
it was the USSR that relieved the world of the plague of Nazism.

"It is an attempt to rewrite the history of WWII and to place equal
responsibility for the war on the former Soviet Union and Hitler's
Germany," Konstantin Kosachev, the head of the State Duma Committee
    for International Affairs said.

"There are strict and universally recognized definitions of
fascism. There are the decisions of the Nuernberg Tribunal, and there
are the results of Second World War - no one has a right to cast
doubts on them. Stalin's persona, his legacy and his regime - this
is a completely different subject. This subject deserves an extremely
careful attitude, but these are completely different issues," Duma's
    Vice Speaker Oleg Morozov said.

"Someone in Europe tries to blacken Russia as they compare
Stalinism and Nazism. Stalin was committing genocide against the
peoples of Russia, whereas Nazism is guilty in exterminating other
nations. Millions of people were killed because of Stalin's idiotism,
but one should speak about it separately from Nazism," State Duma
    deputy Gennady Gudkov told Pravda.Ru.

"This is a political action, which European deputies are conducting
deliberately. They forgot to add other regimes, which were guilty
in slaughtering millions of people. For example, millions of Chinese
people were killed during Mao's regime. For some reason, they forgot
to mention the regimes of Pol Pot, Mussolini, Franco and Pinochet,
as well as the genocide of Armenians in Turkey in 1915. They did not
mention the crimes, which the United States committed against Vietnam
during the 1960s and the 1970s.

"Several small European countries, which used to eat out of Russia's
hands, are now working against Russia. Their nationalist political
elite is trying to take revenge on Russia, and it is a pity that other
European countries listened to their appeals," the deputy concluded.
