Three Russian policemen receive long prison sentences for killing man
A court in Saratov, a city in southern European Russia, delivered a
guilty verdict on three policemen accused of killing an Armenian
national Armen Gasparyan.
Dmitriy Korchagin was sentenced to 23 years, Denis Churikov to 21
years and Yuriy Ogoltsov to 20 years in a maximum security penal
colony.
On the night of 28-29 October 2008 the police officers, who were on
duty at the time, tried to force Armen Gasparyan to confess to a
theft. The policemen beat him up, then poured petrol over him and set
him on fire.
