ArmInfo. In the first half year 2009 the volume of natural gas
deliveries to Armenian from Russia fell by 14,8 % as compared with
the same period of 2008, and totalled 938.8 mln cub.m., says the
statement of CJSC ArmRusgasprom, the sole gas deliverer to Armenia.
Over the period under review a total of 867.7 mln cub.m. of natural
gas was sold, this index being by 14% lower than in the same period of
2008. As compared with the previous year, natural gas consumption by
population decreased by 4,2 % to 344.6 mln cub.m. Gas consumption by
industrial companies amounted to 116.8 mln cub.m., which is by 37,2%
lower than in 2008, and gas consumption in energy sphere decreased
by 26.7% to 157.4 mln cub.m.
ArmRusgasprom specialists explain the reduction in gas deliveries
by the decrease of subscribers' solvency due to the global crisis
and climatic conditions, particularly, by comparably warm winter
and dispatch restrictions on electric power output of the thermal
power plants.
Since 1 April 2009, Armenia has been buying gas from Russia for $154
per 1000 cub.m. as against former $110. In 2008 2,2 bln cub.m. of gas
were delivered from Russia to Armenia. 80% of ArmRusgasprom CJSC shares
belongs to Gazprom OJSC, and 20% belongs to the Armenian Government.
