FORMER FOREIGN MINISTER OF NAGORNO-KARABAKH: 30 THSD ARMENIAN REFUGEES FROM AZERBAIJAN WANT TO RETURN HOME

ArmInfo. 30 thsd Armenian refugees from Azerbaijan want to return home,
the former foreign minister of Nagorno-Karabakh Arman Melikyan told
ArmInfo correspondent.
"All these people have already written relevant applications to the
NKR president. The applications are being collected by the civil
society network "Refugees and International Law". By this moment we
managed to collect about 30 thsd applications of Armenian refugees
from Azerbaijan on a voluntary basis. The applications describe the
circumstances of their deportation from Azerbaijan and contain figures
concerning the victims and the injured as a result of violence against
them",- he said.
In connection with Armenian pogroms in Baku and Sumgait in 1998,
several hundreds of thousands refugees from Azerbaijan came to
Armenia. Only 75 thsd of them received Armenian citizenship.
According to the Caucasian Refugee and IDP NGO Network, at the moment
there are 235 thsd refugees from Azerbaijan in Armenia, most of them
have not had permanent homes for 17 years.
