KHOSROV HAROUTIUNIAN: NKR AUTHORITIES UNDOUBTEDLY TRUST ARMENIA'S LEADERSHIP

YEREVAN, JULY 28, NOYAN TAPAN. The Nagorno Karabakh Republic authorities
undoubtedly trust Armenia's leadership and are not concerned at all that RA
President Serzh Sargsyan will cede Karabakh's vital interests. Khosrov
Haroutiunian, the leader of the Christian-Democratic Union of Armenia,
stated at a July 28 press conference. He said that visiting Karabakh as a
member of the RA Public Council he made sure that there is close cooperation
between the Armenian and Karabakh governments in various issues.
Touching upon Madrid Principles, K. Haroutiunian mentioned that the Madrid
variant is the one more or less acceptable among all variants discussed in
the negotiations so far as it "can contribute to problem's fair settlement."
"However, will we be able to keep Nagorno Karabakh people's security"? It is
the issue, around which we should still negotiate," the party leader said.
In response to the question of what he means by saying "compromises" he said
that they should be adequate. "There are things that are impossible to cede,
for instance, Karabakh's security, which in its turn is conditioned by the
Nagorno Karabakh status," K. Haroutiunian said.
As to the probability of resumption of a war, according to K. Haroutiunian,
it is really big in consideration of the circumstance of Azerbaijan's arming
too much and the fact that the Azeri side is already voicing bellicose
statements in other states.
