Baku, 3 June: The Azerbaijani and Syrian foreign ministers, Elmar
Mammadyarov and Walid al-Mu'allim, met on Wednesday [3 June] to
    discuss bilateral relations.

The Syrian foreign minister arrived on a two-day official visit in
    Baku for the first time.

According to Mammadyarov, during the meeting they discussed several
aspects related to Syrian President Bashar al-Asad's upcoming official
visit to Azerbaijan, the date of which has yet to be determined.

In addition, the diplomats discussed expansion of trade and economic
    cooperation between the two countries.

"The commissioning of the railroad from Baku to Kars [Turkey] via
Tbilisi will facilitate the growth of bilateral trade and tourist
exchanges between Azerbaijan and Syria," Mammadyarov said.

The two ministers said they also focused on the settlement of the
Karabakh and the Middle East conflicts on the basis of international
    law.

The Syrian foreign minister, Walid al-Mu'allim, stated that his country
supports territorial integrity of all countries, including Azerbaijan,
and favours the resolution of the Karabakh conflict by political means.
