/PanARMENIAN.Net/ "Heritage" is going to declare its position regarding
May 31 municipal elections. The party finds that the only difference
in comparison with previous elections is that falsifications escalated
to a new level, focusing on qualitative vs. quantitative criteria,
"Heritage" parliamentary faction's secretary Armen Martirosyan said.
According to the MP, activeness in Yerevan Council elections was
less in comparison with last year's presidential elections when 80%
of citizens participated in voting. And ANC's calculations that 52%
of voters went to polling stations and cast their vote is untrue. "We
can say for sure that the major part of pro-opposition electorate
was passive." Martirosyan said, noting at the same time that despite
electoral wrongdoings, 40% of citizens participated in elections.
It is always possible to attain serious results and even hold victory
if the campaign policy is based on serious and impartial assessments,
Heritage parliamentarian finds. Otherwise, he says, every other
election in Armenia will be similar to the ones held previously.
As noted by Heritage faction MP Zaruhi Postandjyan, "The pro-opposition
force which aspired for victory in municipal elections, does not
actually enjoy trust in public at present."
Anyone aspiring for a mandate, should always keep direct contact
with people and work regularly, she said. Recalling March 1, 2008
developments, Ms. Postandjyan also added, "Even if ex-President had
been under home arrest, he ought to have appeared in public."
These elections, according to Postandjyan, should push ANC to serious
conclusions. Running for elections in obsolete formats and with
obsolete list of candidates was the principal cause of their defeat,
she noted.
