    U.S. TO CONTINUE ACTIVELY PROMOTING NAGORNO KARABAKH SETTLEMENT

    YEREVAN, JUNE 9, NOYAN TAPAN. The U.S. attaches importance to expansion
    of cooperation with Armenia in various spheres. As U.S. Assistant
    Secretary of State Philip Gordon mentioned at the June 9 meeting with
    RA Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian, its evidence is that after
    being appointed on the post of Assistant Secretary of State he starts
    his first foreign trip from Armenia.

    According to E. Nalbandian, attaching importance to further
    strengthening of relations with the United States, Armenia will pursue
    development and deepening of friendly partnership with the U.S.

    According to the RA Foreign Ministry Press and Information Department,
    E. Nalbandian and P. Gordon had a detailed talk over further
    development of Armenian-American relations, attached importance
    to the work done within the framework of the Armenian-American
    Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Issues, touched upon issues
    regarding the Millennium Challenge program, process of reforms carried
    out in Armenia.

    The U.S. Assistant Secretary of State reaffirmed U.S. administration's
    support to the steps undertaken in the direction of normalization of
    Armenian-Turkish relations.

    The interlocutors also exchanged thoughts over Nagorno Karabakh
    settlement.

    P. Gordon emphasized that the U.S. as OSCE Minsk Group co-chairing
    country will continue actively promoting the problem settlement.
