ARMENIA ATTACHES IMPORTANCE TO FURTHER DEEPENING OF BILATERAL RELATIONS WITH ESTONIA AND RELATIONS WITHIN FRAMEWORK OF EU

YEREVAN, JUNE 11, NOYAN TAPAN. "Armenia attaches importance to further
deepening of bilateral relations with Estonia and relations within
the framework of the European Union," RA President Serzh Sargsyan
said on June 11, receiving Foreign Minister of Estonia Urmas Paet,
who has arrived in Armenia on an official visit. The RA President
expressed confidence that Estonian Foreign Minister's visit will be
one more step aimed at expansion of cooperation.
S. Sargsyan highly assessed Estonia's involvement in the advisory
group that arrived in Armenia on the part of the European Union,
attached much importance to their work and said that Armenia strives
for taking the opportunities given by the EU Eastern Partnership
program to the maximum extent.
Mentioning that his visit is aimed at expansion of all-round
cooperation, Urmas Paet said that Estonian businessmen have arrived
in Armenia with him, who try to find common verges of cooperation
with their Armenian partners.
S. Sargsyan mentioned the low level of commodity circulation between
the two countries and attached importance to the holding of the
Armenian-Estonian Economic Forum. He also attached importance to
development of educational, cultural cooperation adding that this year
Armenia is celebrating the 200th birth anniversary of great Armenian
illuminator, writer, pedagogue Khachatur Abovian, who lived part of
his life in Estonia and studied at the University of Tartu.
According to the report of the RA President's Press Office, the
facilitation possibility of the entrance visa reception process was
also touched upon at the meeting.
At Estonian Foreign Minister's request S. Sargsyan briefly presented
the latest developments in the Nagorno Karabakh settlement and the
normalization process of Armenian-Turkish relations.
According to the RA NA Public Relations Department, RA National
Assembly Speaker Hovik Abrahamian also received the Estonian Foreign
Minister the same day.
He expressed the hope that Estonia as a European Union member
will continue actively contributing to Armenia's efforts aimed
at integrating into the European family and corresponding to
its standards. H. Abrahamian also attached imoportance to the
Armenian-Estonian Economic Forum being held the same day in Yerevan,
which can promote cooperation between the two countries' businessmen.
At the meeting, the interlocutors highly assessed the level of
bilateral political relations and expressed satisfaction on that
occasion. They, nevertheless, mentioned that interparliamentary
contacts need to be developed by using of the potential of deputy
friendship groups existing on both sides and legislators' mutual
visits.
The sides also discussed issues regarding Armenia's home
political situation, stability in the South Caucasian region, and
Armenian-Turkish relations.
