PRESCOTT AND COLOMBIER IN ARMENIA TO ASSESS THE IMPLEMENTATION OF PACE RESOLUTION

The co-rapporteurs of the Monitoring Committee of the Council of
Europe John Prescott and Georges Clombier arrived in Armenia on the
eve for a fact-finding visit to Yerevan, as part of the implementation
of PACE Resolutions 1609 (2008), 1620 (2008) and 1643 (2009) on the
functioning of democratic institutions in Armenia.
The co-rapporteurs have already met the members of the Armenian
delegation to PACE, the Prosecutor General of Armenia, Aghvan
Hovsepyan, and head of the ad hoc parliamentary commission set to
probe into the events of March 1 Samvel Nikoyan and Speaker of the
national Assembly Hovik Abrahamyan.
Later today John Prescott and Georges Clombier will meet First
President Levon Ter-Petrosyan, and ex-members of the fact-finding
group, lawyers and wives of some persons uunder arrest.
