American expert: Minsk Group has exhausted its potential

ArmInfo. "The Minsk Group has exhausted its potential. A fault of the
Minsk Group process has been the inherent interests of all three
members", Senior Associate of the American Foreign Policy Council Wayne
Merry told ArmInfo.
According to the expert, if mediation were really intended, the
mediators should have been neutrals with no direct engagement with the
conflicting parties. The Minsk Group is somewhat like using a pair of
mothers in law to try to resolve a marital dispute.
"What is needed is old-fashioned great power collusion by Washington
and Moscow. Mediation is not enough. Armenian and Azeri political
leaders will need outsiders to blame for giving up the "national dream"
and accepting reality. Even if the two great powers cannot entirely
impose a peace, they can certainly move the parties away from the
status quo decisively in favour of compromise and settlement", the
American expert resumed.
