ArmInfo. Leader of the Democratic Movement - United Georgia party Nino
Burjanadze advocates good-neighbourly and partner relations between
Georgia and Armenia. When asked by Tert.am about development of the
Armenian-Georgian relations in the light of Mikheil Saakashvili's
visit to Armenia, N. Burjanadze replied: 'Whichever is our attitude
to the president of Georgia, we think it is very important to develop
the relations with Armenia'.
'I want to express my respect to the Armenian people and say that
good-neighbourly and partner relations with Armenia are very important
for Georgia. Further cooperation with Armenia should be deeper than at
present, for example. These relations should continuously extend. As
for the visit of the Georgian president to Armenia, I am not aware of
the visit details, however, every visit of the president under normal
conditions should be fruitful, and despite my critical attitude to
our president, I wish for the visit to be positive and fruitful',
N. Burjanadze said. When asked how much this visit is connected with
the internal political situation in Georgia, the party leader replied
that she does not rule out discussion of the situation in Georgia,
nevertheless, she added, the main emphasis will be laid on bilateral
relations.
When commenting upon the prohibition on entry of the Armenian
parliamentarian Shirak Torosyan to Georgia, Burjanadze said: 'I think
it is incorrect not to admit an MP of other state, especially as it
is a friendly state and our partner'. 'In principle, I think it is
bad. It is very important for the parliaments of Georgia and Armenia
to have good- neighbourly and partner relations. In any case, the
Foreign Ministry of Georgia should give explanations, and the reasons
for such decision-making should be substantiated', N. Burjanadze said.
