G8 WELCOMES THE EFFORTS OF ARMENIA AND TURKEY TOWARDS NORMALIZATION OF RELATIONS

The Group of Eight countries issued a statement expressing support
for the peaceful settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict.
The statement, which came on the second day of a three-day meeting
between the foreign ministers of G8 nations in Trieste, Italy, said
the G-8 ministers encourage regional stability and cooperation.
"We expressed our commitment for achieving regional stabilization. We
state our support to efforts carried out to that effect with the active
involvement of the UN, the OSCE and the EU. We encourage all actors
in the region to work towards the peaceful settlement of unresolved
conflicts and to support humanitarian aid programs.
We strongly encourage the development of regional cooperation. In this
framework, we welcome the efforts of Armenia and Turkey to normalize
their relations and the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs
to seek a peaceful resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The
Caucasus region has the potential to become an area of peace and
prosperity for all populations," the statement reads.
