ARMENIAN PRESIDENT RECEIVES THE HEAD OF INTERNATIONAL CHESS FEDERATION, PRESIDENT OF KALMIKIA KIRSAN ILYUMZHINOV

YEREVAN, MARCH 3, ARMENPRESS: Armenian President, head of the Armenian
Chess Federation Serzh Sargsian received the head of the International
Chess Federation, President of Kalmikia Kirsan Ilyumzhinov and the
delegation headed by him.
Press service of the president told Armenpress that President
Sargsian expressed gratification that each visit of the head of the
international chess federation to Armenia becomes a beginning of
a new practical program. He also said that it is time to bring the
agreement reached in Dresden during 38th World Chess Olympiad to life.
Kirsan Ilyumzhinov once more congratulated on the brilliant victory
of the Armenian team in the World Olympiad and said: "It is difficult
to win the title of Champion, but it is twice difficult to defend
the title for the second time and not everyone can do it, it already
testifies that a functioning system has been created". He greeted
the efforts of the authorities towards the development of the chess
saying that "when there is a serious attention there is also a result".
Head of the International Chess Federation also presented the steps
undertaken by FIDE towards the development and spread of this kind
of sport. In this context the idea of construction of a chess chamber
in Yerevan has been discussed and approved.
Teaching of chess in schools as a facultative study has also been
discussed.
The interlocutors also referred to the preparations to an international
chess "Grand prix" tournament which will be held in Yerevan in August.
