ARMENIAN OPPOSITION DAILY CLAIMS "PLANNED" POLICE OPERATION
Haykakan Zhamanak
Feb 24 2009
Armenia
Editor of Haykakan Zhamanak Hrach Hakobyan was taken to Armenia's
Military Police on 21 February and held there for an hour. His
detention was not registered at the Military Police.
One would think that what has happened was a result of misunderstanding
if no events that occurred concurrently. In particular, as it turned
out afterwards, everyone who approached Haykakan Zhamanak editorial
office after 2000 hours [1600 gmt] were taken to the Kentron Department
of Police [in Armenia's capital Yerevan]. People detained outside
the editorial office were kept at the police station for an hour or
two and then released. All these were not recorded in documents.
There are no doubts that security agencies carried out a joint
operation against Haykakan Zhamanak planned in advance.
