Baku - APA. Parliamentarian from Turkey's Republican People's Party
(CHP) Sukru Elekdag made a sensational statement, writes Turkey's
Sabah newspaper, APA reports.
The newspaper writes that at the delegation's meetings on not
discussing the so-called Armenian genocide in the U.S. Congress,
parliamentarians from AKP promised: "The borders with Armenia will
open after the local elections in Turkey."
The delegation included Murat Mercan, Suat Kiniklioglu, Nursuna
Memecan from AKP, Mithat Melen from MHP and Sukru Elekdag from CHP.
"Parliamentarians from AKP said the borders would open after March 29
(local elections). They said the negotiations with Armenia were on
the last stage and that any decision of the U.S. Congress would have
negative influence on the relations. I told them not to say so. But
they said agreement would be reached in connection with this,"
Elekdag said.
Parliamentarian from AKP Nursuna Memecan refuted the claims and said:
"the presidents are meeting."
"During the meetings we said Turkey and Armenia had been negotiating
for a year and underlined that negotiations were also being held
with Azerbaijan. The presidents of all three countries are dealing
with it. If in this stage the US passes a decision, it will have a
negative influence," Memecan said.
Nursuna Memecan confirmed that they said the negotiations between
Turkey and Armenia were on the last stage.
"But we did not say "we will open borders after the local elections."
