TURKEY NOT TO OPEN BORDERS WITH ARMENIA IN PREJUDICE OF AZERBAIJAN: AMBASSADOR

Turkey not to open borders with Armenia in prejudice of Azerbaijan,
Turkish Ambassador to Azerbaijan Hulusi Kilic told journalists on
    March 18.

"Turkey will never take steps in prejudice of the Azerbaijani
    interests," the ambassador said.

Reports that opening borders will negatively influence on the
Azerbaijani-Turkish relations is media propaganda which serves
interests of definite organizations and bodies, Kilic said.

"Turkey is closely engaged in a problem to open borders with Armenia,
but Azerbaijani nation must be confident that this is not against of
    their interests," the ambassador said.

Armenian-Turkish relations have been severed since 1993 due to
Armenia's "genocide" campaign and forceful occupation of 20 percent of
Azerbaijani territory. Turkish President Abdullah Gul visited Yerevan
on Sept. 6, 2008 after being invited by Armenian counterpart Serzh
Sargsyan to watch a football match between the two countries. Efforts
have been made to normalize ties ever since.
