Many parties have already declared whether they are going to
participate in the elections to the Yerevan City Council or
not. Proceeding from the chaotic situation in the country over the
past 20 years, the Communist Party of Armenia has decided to boycott
the elections scheduled for May 31, First Secretary of the Communist
Party Ruben Tovmasyan told a press conference today. He explained
the grounds for that decision.
"The country is in a very difficult situation, in a deep economic and
political crisis. There is even an anecdote, saying that the crisis
comes to Armenia and leaves frightened, seeing that the crisis has long
got acclaimed here. We have said many times and repeat now that this
system suffers from gangrene. Therefore, we do believe that people will
understand our decision to boycott the elections. These authorities
will continue the same policy, and we do not want to participate in
the frauds and all kinds of election gambles that have been taking
place ever since 1990s.
