SEVEN FORCES RUN IN THE MUNICIPAL ELECTION

Six parties and one alliance, the Armenian National Congress, will
run for the Yerevan municipal elections of May 31. The deadline for
the nomination and document submission expired at 6.00 p.m., March
22. The seven forces standing for the city council are the Prosperous
Armenia Party (BHK), People's Party (ZhK), Armenian National Congress
(HAK), ARF-Dashnaktsutyun, Social Labour Party of Armenia (HASK),
Republican Party of Armenia (HAK), Orinats Yerkir Party (OYK)
The Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC), Garegin
Azaryan says the election will be noteworthy and ensures high
voter turnout. Asked whether the election will be held without major
incidents, Mr. Azaryan said: "I am not a weather forecaster to predict
the election outcome. Provided that our candidates read the Electoral
Code, everything will be all right both for the candidates and for
the public."
