ArmInfo. Chairman of 'Single Javahkh' movement Vahagn Chakhgalyan has
directed an open letter of President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili. To
recall, the court proceedings against Chakhalyan are underway at
present. He is accused of being involved in an attempt against the
head of regional police, but his supporters say the accusation is
invented and has a political context.
In Chalhalyan's open letter spread today he called President
Saakashvili to revise the policy of the Georgian authorities regarding
Armenians of Javahkh. He thinks Georgian authorities should not hold
expensive programme for introduction of the Georgian language in
Javahkh, they should simply make its residents be interested in it.
Chakhalyan urges the president to stop the policy he has inherited from
his predecessors. He thinks it is high time to settle the political,
language, cultural, educational and social-economic problems of the
Armenians in Javakhq at least gradually. He calls on the president
for practical steps to restore the trust of the Armenian population
in the central authorities.
Chakhalyan is sure that the president has such chance but has not even
tried to use it yet. He says that Armenians of Javakhq are ready for
a dialogue.
'We hope we will not be forced to apply to European and international
structures for settlement of the problems between the two friendly
peoples.
It remains for you to accept our invitation to a dialogue', he says
in his letter to President Saakashvili.
