UEFA has accused the Macedonian "Pobeda" team for purposefully losing
to "Pyunik" in July 2004 in Yerevan.
"Pobeda" lost 1:3 in the match held in the first round of
qualifications for the champions' league, while it tied the match in
Yerevan with 1:1.
UEFA received information about the arrangement from bookmaking
offices and made the following statement: "The charge is based on the
evidence supported by bookmaking offices and some witnesses. The UEFA
regulatory committee will make a decision on April 17."
General Manager of "Pyunik" of Yerevan Andranik Tsaturyan told "A1+"
that he was at the match that took place in Skopiey in 2004.
"I remember that match, but I didn't notice anything peculiar. Of
course, many people were talking about how "Pobeda" played poorly
that day, but I had not seen how "Pobeda" played before that match
to judge. In any case, that is the Macedonian team's problem. Our
team went out there to win."
