Kiev and Tbilisi must become members of NATO, said Hikmet Cetin,
representative of NATO, former Speaker of the Turkish Parliament
and former head of the Turkish Foreign Ministry at the conference
"NATO-Azerbaijan: a vision for the future with the assessment of the
past", held in Baku and devoted to the 15th anniversary of Azerbaijan's
participation in NATO program of "Partnership for Peace".
"Tbilisi's accession to the alliance should be speeded up due to the
last year invasion of Russia to Turkey", - he stressed.
H. Cetin noted the need to strengthen NATO's attention to ensuring
peace and security in the South Caucasus.
"The August events of last year openly demonstrated the threat that
lies within the frozen conflicts. Unless the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict
and the conflict in Georgia are not resolved, the threat of renewed
hostilities in the region will always be real", he said.
