OBAMA ADMINISTRATION INTERESTED IN EXPANDING COOPERATION WITH ARMENIA

The Foreign Minister of Armenia, Edward Nalbandian, had a meeting
with US Secretary of State Hilary Clinton.
Greeting the Armenian Foreign Minister, the US Secretary of State
noted that the US was interested in the reinforcement and development
of multifaceted relations with Armenia, and the Obama Administration
was willing to expand the cooperation between the two countries.
Expressing gratitude for the invitation to visit Washington, Minister
Nalbandian underlined that Armenia would pursue the development of
friendly partnership with the United States and the expansion and
deepening of cooperation.
The heads of foreign agencies of the two countries discussed a broad
framework of issues connected with different spheres of bilateral
relations, the opportunities of development and expansion of economic
cooperation. Reference was made to the sitting of the Armenian-American
Intergovernmental Commission to be held in Yerevan later in May,
a number of regional and international issues.
The interlocutors discussed the process of normalization of the
Armenian-Turkish relations. The Secretary of State assessed the April
22nd statement of the Foreign Ministries of Armenia and Turkey as
historic. She confirmed the position of the United States to uphold the
support to the full normalization of the Armenian-Turkish relations.
The interlocutors discussed the latest developments in the process
of settlement of the Karabakh conflict. Reference was made to the
forthcoming meting of the Presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan. State
Secretary Clinton emphasized the importance of the peaceful resolution
of the Artsakh issue and noted that as a co-chair of the Minsk Group,
the US will continue its support for settlement of the conflict
and will create new opportunities for development, stability and
reinforcement of security in the South Caucasus.
Minister Nalbandian presented to State Secretary Clinton the process of
reforms implemented in Armenia and the steps taken in that direction.
