ARMENIA'S ECONOMIC DECLINE 6.1% IN 1ST Q 2009

YEREVAN, May 7. /ARKA/. Armenia's GDP reduced 6.1% (in constant prices)
in the 1st Q 2009, compared with the same quarter of the previous
year, Statistical Committee of the Commonwealth of Independent
States reports.
The Commonwealth's GDP shrank 11% in Jan-March 2009 on average,
compared with the same period a year earlier.
According to the statistical report, three CIS countries faced
macroeconomic decline at the first quarter of this year, while the
remaining member countries recorded growth.
The fastest economic growth - 7.9% - was recorded in Uzbekistan,
Azerbaijan (4.1%) and Tajikistan (3.5%).
Belarus enjoyed 1.1% economic growth and Kyrgyzstan 0.2%.
Moldova recorded 7.2% growth, Ukraine and Georgia 2.1%, while
Kazakhstan and Russia had their GDPs 4.5% and 12.3% reduced in the
1st Q 2009.
