meeting of Azerbaijani and Armenian presidents'
[ 09 May 2009 13:42 ]
Baku. Victoria Dementyeva `APA. Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov
made announcement on the results of the meeting between the presidents
of Azerbaijan and Armenia in Prague.
The minister said there was no serious progress in the meeting, APA
reports. `There is no any serious progress. We have to develop the
talks. There were complicated issues in the meeting. Unfortunately
Armenia didn't show constructiveness again'.
The minister expressed opinion about the reports on the tense
atmosphere of the talks. `I wouldn't use the word `tense', but there
is a fact of occupation of the lands. Azerbaijan demands the Armenian
forces to be withdrawn from there soon. The discussions are going on
these principles. I can't say that there was a serious progress'.
Mammadyarov said the next meeting of the presidents of Azerbaijan and
Armenia was planned to be held within the St. Petersburg Economic
Forum early June. The co-chairs will visit the region until that and
will discuss the detail of the meeting. The foreign ministers are also
expected to meet if it is necessary, the minister said.
The foreign minister spoke about his meeting with US Secretary of
State Hillary Clinton. `We had good meeting. We mentioned the Nagorny
Karabakh and energy issues. Hillary Clinton emphasized the importance
of peace and stability in the region and between Azerbaijan and
Armenia. This is very important statement. She promised to make all
efforts for that'.
Mammadyarov said new situation was created in the region. `The United
States, Russian and European Union have a higher role in this
situation. I believe if the United States provides large assistance,
we can achieve the progress'.
