/PanARMENIAN.Net/ "Technogenous catastrophes like the one at Nairit
factory happen even in developed countries of the world. Professional
and operative work of governmental bodies play an important role in
such cases," Councilor of Life Saving Service Head at RA Ministry
of Extraordinary Situations, Colonel Nikolai Grigoryan told a news
conference in Yerevan.
"Governmental bodies showed a high level of commitment. Operative
actions were taken to prevent the worse. The threat has been
eliminated." According to the Colonel, Ministry of Extraordinary
situations has worked out a special plan for the brigade to act
upon during the catastrophe. "Our task is to explain what happened
to prevent the spread of panic. The catastrophe could stir up major
panic in the city and upset the normal rhythm of its life," Nikolai
Grigoryan said, emphasizing that the factory building is rather
depreciated, so extra security should be observed here.
Yesterday, around 6:40 p.m. two explosions occurred at Nairit Factory;
later the fire erupted. 9 fire-brigades arrived at the site within
15 minutes of the incident.
One absorption tower has burned down as a result of breakage at
chloroprene section. Due to firemen's efforts the fire was fully
extinguished. 4 people are dead and 8 injured as a result of fire.
A professional council was formed at the factory yesterday to
investigate breakage causes, and work towards overcoming fire
consequences.
The breakage caused no contamination, no dangerous emissions are
registered. Other technical lines of the factory continue operating.
Two criminal cases are started. Explosion causes haven't yet been
determined.
