/PanARMENIAN.Net/ "Eastern Partnership initiative stipulates for
economic collaboration, creation of free trade zone for Eastern
Partnership member states, facilitation of visa regime and preparations
for signing agreements on EU associated membership," Polish Ambassador
to Armenia Tomash Knotkhe told a news conference in Yerevan. He
reminded European neighborhood policy promotes intensification and
development of bilateral relations between EU and Eastern Partnership
member states.
"Suggestions of EU are optional for countries to use. These
suggestions have no obligatory character," he said, adding that
European neighborhood program was initiated based on EU's wish to
provide security at European borders.
The Polish diplomat did not preclude the possibility of South Caucasian
states being granted EU membership, adding, "To become a part of EU,
should bring their laws and economy into compliance with EU standards."
"Still, Currently South Caucasian states do not seek EU membership. EU
does not impose an aspiration for Eurostructure membership upon South
Caucasus states. We're just providing the possibility and it's for
the country itself to decide on the way to use it," Tomash Knothe
concluded.
