Distinguished educator joins HASG College as Head of College
The Board of Directors and Principal are very pleased to announce that Mrs
Carolyn Blanden will join HASG College this week to take up the position of
Head of College*. She brings with her extensive experience in education
having worked with government and independent schools, in tertiary and
international education and as an advisor to the NSW Board of Studies. Mrs
Blanden has also worked in the finance industry, the construction industry
and in water resource technology.
Mrs Blanden has held the positions of Principal at Meriden Anglican School,
Deputy Principal and Director of Studies at Tara Anglican School and Science
teacher and Boarding Housemaster at Knox Grammar School, each of those
schools being some of the top ranking schools in NSW, and consistently being
ranked as the top 100 HSC performing schools. She has worked extensively
for the NSW Board of Studies in the roles of HSC Supervisor of Marking for
4 Unit Science, Chair of the HSC Examination Committee for 2 Unit Geology
and as a Member of various expert committees convened for the New HSC. Mrs
Blanden has been a Member of the Academic Committee of the Association of
Heads of Independent Schools representing the views of the Independent
Sector to the Board of Studies and a member of the Executive of the
Association of Heads of Independent Girls Schools.
Mrs Blanden holds the Degrees of Bachelor of Arts and Master of Education,
together with a Diploma of Education from Macquarie University. She is a
Member of the Australian Institute of Management, the Australian College of
Education, the Australian Council of Educational Leadership and the National
Speakers Association.
An active member of the parish of St Swithun's Pymble, Mrs Blanden is a
member of the Parish Council and Chair of the Communications Committee. She
is a Trustee of the international aid organisation Women's Plans Foundation
and a member of the Awards Committee of the National Council of Women.
Whilst Mrs Blanden's primary expertise is in the area of Curriculum Design
and Development and the achievement of high academic standards, she is
particularly keen to work with the College's Pastoral Care program and to
enrich our students' opportunities through Co-curricular activities. She
will be working closely with our Principal, Mr Michaelian, in other aspects
of College administration. We welcome Mrs Blanden to the HASG College
Community as the College enters this exciting phase of growth and
development as part of its continuing commitment to educational excellence.
*Following extensive consultations with the Association of Independent
Schools, and in order to attract the best possible candidate for the role
the HASG Board decided to rename the originally advertised position of Vice
Principal to Head of College.
