On May 26 President of the National Assembly received the newly
appointed Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Kingdom
of Norway to Armenia Mr. Knut Houg (residence in Moscow).
Congratulating the Ambassador Mr. Houg in Armenia on the occasion of
starting his mission, the President of the National Assembly expressed
his conviction that he would promote to raise the bilateral relations
to a new level. The President of the Armenian Parliament stressed
that he considered necessary to enliven the Armenian-Norwegian
parliamentary contacts.
Mr. Hovik Abrahamyan noted that the people of Armenia are grateful
to Norway for the humanitarian aid shown after 1988 devastating
earthquake. Recollecting Fridtjof Nansen's contribution to the
protection of the rights of the Armenian refugees, who were
deprived of their Motherland because of 1915 Armenian Genocide,
the interlocutors agreed that Armenian-Norwegian friendly relations
had rich history. Both sides said that the existing potential allows
developing bilateral economic and cultural contacts.
During the talk the sides also touched upon the issues of regional
security and cooperation of Armenia and Norway in international
organizations.
