PAN KI-MOON DENIES GEORGIA'S STATEMENT ON RUSSIA'S "BLACKMAILING UN"

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ UN Secretary General Pan Ki-Moon denied information
on having succumbed to "Russia's blackmail" by introducing changes
in his recent report on Georgia. Such rumors were circulated on
May 27 by Georgian permanent representatives to UN. According to
Secretary General, the title for the report was chosen with the
purpose of avoiding unnecessary politicization during Security
Council discussions.
The last report on UN Mission in the zone of Georgian-Abkhazian
conflict is entitled "General Secretary's Report Drawn up in Compliance
with Security Council Resolutions 1808 (2008), 1839 (2008) and 1866
(2009) ". The previous report had the following title: "General
Secretary's Report on the Situation in Abkhazia. Georgia's Compliance
with Security Council Resolution 1839 (2008).
In a press conference convened in UN Headquarters in New York,
Georgian permanent representative Alexander Lomay expressed concerns
that Russia might have threatened the Secretariat to exercise its right
to veto in case UN Mission prolonged its mandate in Georgian-Abkhazian
conflict zone.
"Secretary General denies hypothesis on any threats against him,"
says the office Press Secretary in a statement issued on behalf of
Pan Ki-Moon.
While preparing the report, Secretary General tried to involve all
parties in the process of elaborating security mechanisms in the
region, runs the document.
