PROTEST ACTION IN YEREVAN BY REPRESENTATIVES OF YOUTH AGAINST DESTRUCTION OF ARMENIAN CHURCHES IN GEORGIA

ArmInfo. The protest action was held in Yerevan today near Georgia's
Embassy by representatives of Armenian youth against destruction of
Armenian churches in Georgia.
As chairman of Students Council of Yerevan State University, one of the
organizers of the action, Tsolak Hakopyan, told ArmInfo correspondent,
the Armenian youth have raised the protest note against Georgian
authorities, which have been implementing 'cultural genocide' regarding
Armenian monuments and churches. 'The Armenian youth is resolute and
we are going to fight to the end so that our cultural achievements
not to be destroyed by the functionaries of Georgia in future', -
Hakopyan said.
The Yerevan State Economic University and the Yerevan State Pedagogical
University students have joined the action of protest in front of
the Georgian Embassy and demanded a meeting with the Ambassador. They
demand was rejected.
The St. Gevork of Mughni Armenian Church (built in 1356) in Tbilisi,
Georgia, had Collapsed recently. The Supreme Court of Armenia called
on the Georgian authorities and the Georgian Orthodox Church for taking
steps to provide the Georgian Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church
with a status of a legal entity and to return the Armenian churches
under its jurisdiction.
