Turkey continues to work toward solutions in the Caucasus and sees
the continuation of peace in the region as beneficial for all, stated
Turkish President Abdullah Gul, upon his return from Azerbaijan,
reports Turkish daily Today's Zaman.
Asked about the repercussions for Azerbaijan of Turkey's recent
attempts to thaw the ice with Armenia, Gul stated that Azerbaijani
leaders have full confidence in Turkey.
"A meeting between [Azerbaijani President Ilham] Aliyev and [Armenian
President Serzh] Sargsyan is of high importance. Aliyev said he
received very positive impressions from Russia and the United States
over solving the Nagorno-Karabakh issue. The Azeri side is pleased
to see that the issue is held at a higher level, as it was previously
discussed among lower-profile figures.
"Everyone is aware that an improvement in Nagorno-Karabakh is needed
for advancement on the Armenian initiative. We are in a favourable
position for the solution of the deadlock. The issue is no longer
frozen. It should move forward soon," Gul stated.
