TEHRAN -- Prominent sculptor Alireza Qadamyari has plans to complete
the sculpture of the late singer Parviz Meshkatian by the end of
winter.
Santur virtuoso Parviz Meshkatian died of heart failure at his home in
Tehran two weeks ago on September 21. He was 54. His body was buried
in his hometown of Neyshabur.
After the master was buried in Neyshabur, the city council and the
municipality decided to order his statue, "they asked me to take on
the task", said Qadamyari.
"I am currently collecting information and am planning to make a
maquette of the sculpture within a month and the actual sculpture
should be completed in less than six months.
"The completed marble sculpture will be 130 cm in height and will be
installed at the Attar Garden.
"The master is one of our most prominent figures in traditional
music and I am planning to make use of classical elements in creating
the sculpture.
"I believe Meshkatian had a great tendency toward Attar and I will try
to use a series of elements from Attar and the concept of mysticism
in creating my work," he explained.
He continued that he would like to convey a narrative concept in the
work so that when every visitor even foreigners view the sculpture,
they could easily relate to it and get to know the master's character.
Qadamyari also added that music as an art form is no different with
other arts and sure it will have its influence on the sculpture he
will make.
Statues of Ferdowsi, Attar, and Khayyam installed in Armenia are
among the artist's credits. He also has several works installed in
the city of Neyshabur.
