    IRAN JOINS TRACECA TRANSPORT CORRIDOR

    ArmInfo. Iran officially joined the transport corridor of TRACECA
    (Europe, Asia and Caucasus) in a bid to boost regional cooperation and
    get access to its transit goals, ISNA reported. Iran's Deputy Minister
    of Road and Transportation Shahriar Afandizadeh said through Iran's
    joining the TRACECA agreement, the corridor's path will be expanded
    and besides Black Sea path, Bulgaria-Turkey- Iran land way which is
    the most appropriate and economical one for Europe's access to Asia
    will join other roads.

    The measure surely brings considerable economic, political and
    commercial interests for Iran, Afandizadeh said.

    Expansion of trade and economic cooperation with regional countries,
    arrangement of a fundamental strategy on transit principles for major
    markets of production and consumption in Central Asia, Caucasus and
    Europe, speeding up international transport between regional countries
    and the EU are among Iran's goals for joining the corridor, he added.

    TRACECA corridor was ran in 1998 to expand road, transport and economic
    cooperation among neighboring countries of Caspian Sea, Black Sea and
    Caucasus and it includes Romania, Moldavia, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Turkey,
    Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan,
    Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Iran, he noted.

    Membership of Afghanistan and Pakistan is being studied, he said.
