The participants in a demonstration of protest organized by the
Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) stopped in front of the
presidential residence and adopted a declaration, calling on
the Armenian leader not to put his signature to the initialed
Armenian-Turkish protocols.
Head of the RA Presidential Administration Karen Karapetyan met with
the demonstrators, who handed the text of the declaration to him. The
ARF member Armen Rustamyan read the declaration aloud.
According to the declaration, Armenia's foreign policy had deviated
from the course of normalizing relations with Turkey without any
preconditions. "The protocols contain points posing threat to national
security. The six-day discussions showed most people are against the
signing of the protocols. However, the proponents, with rare exception,
have been unable to inform the public by means of television. We
demand that you should not sign the protocols. Otherwise, you will
bear the responsibility for the unpredictable consequences of this
step," the document reads.
The 3,000 to 5,000 demonstrators made their way for the Monument
to the victims of the Armenian Genocide and started a rally there
at 7:00 p.m. local time. The demonstrators were shouting slogans
"No to Turkish preconditions!" and "President, do not give in!".
