CHISINAU HOSTS CIS SUMMIT OF HEADS OF STATE

The summit of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) has begun
at the Palace of Republic in the Moldovan capital Chisinau today.
Six heads of CIS states (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan,
Russia, Ukraine), one vice prime minister (Turkmenistan) and one
parliament chairman (Uzbekistan) gathered to discuss joint actions
of the Commonwealth countries for overcoming the financial-economic
crisis, as well as preparations for the celebration of the 65th
anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
Before the summit meeting its participants traditionally had their
photograph taken against the background of state flags of their
countries lining up from left to right in the alphabetical order of
their states. The conversation started behind closed doors with no
journalists admitted, ITAR-TASS reported.
