High-level Armenian-Azerbaijani talks on the peaceful settlement of
the Karabakh conflict were held in Chisinau.
The meeting of the Presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan Serzh Sargsyan
and Ilham Aliyev started in the presence of the Foreign Ministers
of the two countries, Edward Nalbandian and Elmar Mammadyarov, the
Co-Chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group Yuri Merzlyakov (Russia), Bernard
Fassier (France) and Robert Bradtke (USA), as well as the Personal
Representative of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Andrzej Kasprzyk.
Later the President continued the meeting tete-a-tete, following
which they were again joined by the Foreign Ministers of the Minsk
Group Co-Chairs.
During the three-hour meeting the parties demonstrated constructive
willingness to continue the talks on the peaceful settlement of
the conflict.
At the end of the meeting the Co-Chairs told reporters that the
Presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan continued discussing the issues,
which have not been agreed upon.
The Co-Chairs said the talks continue on the basis of principles of
international law - the right to self-determination, non-use of force,
as well as within the framework of the principles incorporated in the
Helsinki Final Act. They noted also that the Karabakh issues in no
way tied to the Armenian-Turkish dialogue, and the two are different
processes with completely di fferent logic.
